Fargo, North Dakota – Customers may have to wait until the weekend or later, according to Cass County Electric Cooperative, for the restoration of the entire power system. According to CCEC estimates, the Christmas Day ice storm caused between 250 and 300 electricity poles to break.

The amount of damage crews detect, the state of the roads, and the weather will all affect how quickly repairs are completed.

Cass County Electric is receiving assistance from crews from Roughrider Electric, McKenzie Electric, and Burke-Divide Electric Cooperatives.

In addition to the system damage caused by Cass County Electric, their power source, Minnkota Power Cooperative, is also addressing transmission and substation concerns.

More than 3,500 customers of Cass County Electric were still without power as of Wednesday morning, according to CEO Marshall Albright.
