Valley City, North Dakota – To address the building fund tax levy over the levy issue, the Valley City Public School District and Barnes County agreed. On Friday, January 5, at a special board meeting, the school board adopted the resolution.

Josh Johnson, superintendent of Valley City Public Schools, stated that the district collaborated with Barnes County officials and their legal advisor to ascertain the appropriate legal procedure for reimbursing taxpayers for a segment of the construction fund tax levy.

During the normal board meeting last month, school board president Ryan Mathias made the following statement regarding the over-levy issue.

The school district will reimburse Barnes County taxpayers for $569,000 over four years, from 2019 to 2022, as per the resolution.

According to the agreement, the school district would pay $2,000 for the refund checks’ postage, and the county would give reimbursement checks to taxpayers.

The estimated date of returning the refund checks to taxpayers is March 2024, according to Barnes County Interim Auditor Julie Mindt.
